If you are looking for authentic Bengali food in Calcutta, the best place to visit is Suruchi, a very recently launched restaurant on Elliott Road run exclusively by women. Not a 3-star or a 5-star facility, Suruchi offers you exotic Bengali food like steamed hilsa or prawn cooked in coconut milk at a reasonable price. There are a few newly opened restaurants as well, like the one at Mirza Ghalib Street that is hugely popular among visiting Bangladeshis. Earlier, you would have to visit a Bengali friend's house to have a taste of local delicacies. Thankfully, it is no longer so.
