The Diva - Buenos Aires Blogger

Buenos Aires through my Eyes is the "official website of Bitch Tours, a student from Buenos Aires who guides tourists as a part time job." Although the tone might be too in your face for some tastes I find it aggressively amusing, and strangely addictive reading, as it can be somewhat unpredictable. Combined with an obvious porteñas knowledge of the city this can be both entertaining and enlightening.

Not only does her blog provide tips for tourists, albeit occasionally begrudgingly, she is also particularly strong on the culture of the people, which is essential in a blogger conveying the feel for their city.

All in all I think this blog is an excellent resource for those interested in Buenos Aires, and as an advertisement for Diva's tours. She does sometimes sound a bit scary but I bet her "Bitch Tours" are far more entertaining than the standard fodder. She agreed to answer our questions for the Blogger of the Day interview and typically she did not disappoint, saying her top tip for visitors was to "Hire me". Amen to that. Read on below for her other responses.

As an aside I have just read the post re a review of her blog on Indextar saying "For someone who inspires to be a journalist/writer, her writing style is insipid and boring". Too me that's a little harsh, but as I say her style won't be for everyone. It did make me wonder about the writer who posted the review though - does anyone else think that someone who aspires to be a reviewer ought to improve their vocabulary?

Favourite bar/Cafe?

My favorite good ol´ porteño-style Cafe is El banderin. Why? Because it´s authentic and it screams "This Buenos Aires"

Favourite local dish?

Asado (Argentinean BBQ) without a doubt. We, argentine people, eat almost every part of the cow, so in an asado, apart from the beef, you will find sweetbreads and intestines (my favourites, by the way)

Favourite restaurant?

I don´t have a favorite, I can´t answer this, seriously. Ask for recommendations and I´ll name a few.

Favourite shop?

A bookstore called El Ateneo in Santa fé and Callao. The place used to be a theater. It´s gorgeous (and gigantic.)

What is best time of year to visit?

Spring or autumn. Summer is hot and very humid. Winter is fine too; if you are used to serious winters ours will be a joke for you.

Favourite neighbourhood?

Almagro. Not pretentious, very porteño, lots of artists and small alternative venues but also traditional and with tango flavour.

Favourite building?

Palacio Barolo. Just visit it and you´ll find out why.

A perfect 'night out' would be....

Friends and drinks in any random bar ( I like to find new places all the time) and after that dancing at zizek.

Favourite walk?

I really like Avenida de Mayo. And Avenida Corrientes on a friday or saturday night.

Favourite book about the city?

I´m starting to get tired of all this questions that start with FAVOURITE! What can I say? I recommend you some Authors: Cortazar, Borges, Mujica Lainez, Arlt, Gambaro...

Best Day Trip?

The typical answer would be Tigre, because it´s a great place and it worth a visit. But I think that another great day trip would be to go to a small town in the province where gaucho culture is still alive. San Antonio de areco maybe.

Top Tip for visitors?

1.Hire me

2. Read my blog before you come, you´ll find all you need to know.

Tell us something we don't know about your city?

Well, you have to pay for that. Sorry.

She's quite friendly in

She's quite friendly in person. The bitch thing is all marketing, I think.
