If you ever come to the city of Calcutta (Kolkata) you will still find a strong resemblance with London, for which it was once called as the second city of the British Empire. Now you may disagree seeing the changing picture of the city. But it can be still called a City of Monuments and preferably of British origin if you care to take a walk down the streets in the evening.
For instance, take a walk in any evening around the Governor’s House, adjoining Town Hall to Esplanade and Dalhousie. The atmosphere of the vicinity will certainly make you feel of a British ardor. This is not the only place which is living with an Imperial past but such places are present in different parts of Calcutta, the former capital of the British Raj. These include the national library, sides of River Hoogly and much more. It can only be realized only if you have an urge to get into the history and discover the hidden facts.
The city, undoubtedly, is changing in all aspects to cope with the present requirement but still the Calcuttans are nostalgic of these structures, which to them contributed a lot in their developments in the remote past.
