From their heritage comes the famous Chinese breakfast of Kolkata. It has been around for ages now and no true kolkatan could have missed this. Get up around 5.30 in the morning and head to Poddar court or Tiretta Bazaar, both popular places and you can get their through bus or cab. There are rows of vendors with piping hot momos, cutlets, dimsums, home made buns and sauces. For a reasonable price you can eat all you like including prawn momos, chicken wraps or pork chops.

There are various other flea markets in Kolkata but this is one place where you can get it all under one roof. Be it clothes, vegetables, crockery, electronics or any other requirement, you can get everything in this flea market. The market covers enough area to take an entire day while you are shopping and some bargains are available at throw away prices. Do you need to bargain?

It is the luncheons paradise with food prices reaching a maximum of Rs. 25. This place is KAKA Tea and is located in Mangoe lane near Mission Row. The food here serves more than 1000 office goers on busy days. Ranging from vegetable curries, crispy tandoori roti’s to sweets this place has it all. It is one of the oldest eateries in the area but serves marwari and tandoori food. The Kalakand, a sweet delicacy, should not be missed.

Now you may disagree seeing the changing picture of the city. Not a 3-star or a 5-star facility, Suruchi offers you exotic Bengali food like steamed hilsa or prawn cooked in coconut milk at a reasonable price. There are a few newly opened restaurants as well, like the one at Mirza Ghalib Street that is hugely popular among visiting Bangladeshis. Earlier, you would have to visit a Bengali friend's house to have a taste of local delicacies. Thankfully, it is no longer so.
