Big Heads Up

I am amused by this large head bronze sculpture in the Jardin de Luxembourg. Le Prophete by sculptor Louis Derbre, stands 6.50 meters (21 ft.) and weighs 12 tons.
It's a stark contrast to the delicately detailed queens of France statues in white marble lining the park.

Louis Debre is a world renowned sculptor and his work has been shown all over the world including Brazil, the U.S.,Canada, Norway, Japan, Indonesia and the Ivory Coast. His crowning achievement came in 1997 with the six monumental sculptures he did for the Hiroshima peace memorial.

"it soon became obvious that mid 20th century warships didn't really do stairs. Steep ladder-type ascents yes, but gently-rising staircases no. You won't get up to the first gun turret in heels, that's for sure, but we were a testosterone-only party so we scrambled up with ease."

Everyone in Spain is on the Atkins Diet

Great humour in this post - "Spaniards on the street don’t smile. Normally I would attribute this to a natural sense of reserve, but don’t be fooled. They’re all grumpy because of a lack of carbs and high ketone levels. In fact, there are no diabetics in Spain. They don’t eat enough glucose to trigger an episode."

No this is not a fairytale, the Danish really do celebrate the birthday of the famous Little Mermaid statue every year on the 23 August. You can watch as a bevy of Danish bikini clad girls, one for each of the years or age of the Little Mermaid dive in to the water close to the statue.

You can visit the Scottish parliament building in Edinburgh free of charge but you'll only be able to walk around the central lobby and the the public area of the debating chamber. The building is very modern and you either love or loathe it. There are guided tours available on some days which cost around £5 and give fuller access and detailed commentary by a professional guide,
