Boris Johnson & the London Olympics Beijing Handover

Boris Johnson

I have just enjoyed watching the Beijing Olympics closing ceremony, particularly the London handover. After the criticism that the Chinese have excessively stage managed these games, stifling any potential party atmosphere what better man than Boris Johnson to show that London might not have such spectacular venues etc but will be a lot more fun, saying that the London games will be "intimate", yet "fantabulous". Fantabulous indeed! Looking forward to seeing how that translates. As he fumbled with the flag, wearing his usual shambolic expression, there could hardly be a greater contrast with the control freakery of the Chinese. Boris has been in Beijing for the last few days, generally talking London up and providing a good few soundbites. His press conference truly was "fantabulous", as he commiserated the Australians for a poor medal haul, and suggesting a "great crested newt" as the London mascot and stating that London "wouldn’t have done the switcheroo with the girl with the braces.”

Boris has his fans and his critics, both in huge numbers, but he is undeniably the man to have at the helm of a fun London 2012 Olympics.
