Gamble a Perth night away at Burswood Casino

I can still remember when the Burswood Casino first opened up here in Perth in the mid-1980s. It was a big sensation for this coming-of-age city to get its first casino, and back then dress standards were strict and queues were long.

Go To Prison in Fremantle

One of the most interesting places to visit in Fremantle, Perth's port town, is the Fremantle Prison. From the 1850s until quite recently - 1991, in fact - the prison was used to house Western Australian prisoners, after being built by convict labour.

Now that it's no longer a working prison, there are a number of different ways you can tour it, including the standard day tour, a torchlight (and slightly scary) evening tour, and a physically more testing tour of the tunnels that were dug under the prison.

Swim with Sharks in Perth at AQWA (or Just Watch Them)

Western Australia is renowned for its incredible coastline, but the problem is that it's a coastline that's incredibly long. If you're curious about the wildlife found along the WA coast, then luckily there's an easy way to see it all in one place, at the Aquariam of Western Australia or AQWA as it's more commonly known.

Anzac Day at Kings Park

Every year on April 25, Australians celebrate Anzac Day, the day chosen to remember all Australians and New Zealanders who have fought for these countries in wars. In Perth, the largest ceremony to be held on Anzac Day is the Dawn Service, held in Kings Park around six o'clock in the morning.

The Swan Valley's Best Chocolate Factory

Australian chocolate might not be quite as famous as Belgian or Swiss chocolate, but I can promise you that it's still delicious, and a great place to test this promise out is at the Swan Valley branch of the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. The Swan Valley is just on the outskirts of the city of Perth and the chocolate factory is open to visitors every day except Christmas Day.

The Long History of the Swan Bells

Visitors to Perth these days see the Bell Tower on the city side of the Swan River foreshore and simply see an interesting tourist attraction. In fact, the Bell Tower is one of the newest additions to the Perth tourist trail, and has an interesting background.

Australia Day Fireworks in Perth

Every January 26, Australians get a public holiday and are free to show some patriotic spirit to celebrate the founding of the nation. Australia Day is a day full of barbecues, visits to the beach with family, and it all culminates in the evening fireworks shows.

Koalas and Kangaroos at Caversham Wildlife Park

Seeing koalas and kangaroos might seem like the obvious tourist experience when you visit Australia, but if you go to the right kind of wildlife park it can be much more than just a photo opportunity. My favourite spot is the Caversham Wildlife Park in Perth, Western Australia.
